Pfizer banquet with members of the Brooklyn Dodgers
Brooklyn was my grandparent’s home after the war until the late 1950’s. During that time, Grandpa would spend time working at the Pfizer plant and occasionally shagging balls for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets field.
He would often reminisce about his days at Ebbets field, watching his beloved Dodgers play baseball. He joked that after the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, there wasn’t anything left for him in Brooklyn. This explained why he left a lucrative career path at Pfizer to pursue an opportunity with Anheuser-Busch in Houston.
There are several photographs in his albums of his time in Brooklyn. Many of the photos are of unfamiliar faces to my eyes. I regret that we didn’t spend more time looking back at his memories, having him put names to faces in the photos.
Below are a few of the most familiar faces that do not need much evaluation. Perhaps you’ll notice a few yourself. If you see a familiar face, let me know in the comments. Enjoy!
The Pfizer Softball Team
Baseball is in our blood. Any opportunity to play baseball or softball was a welcome one.
Grandpa played on the Pfizer Terras company softball team in 1952. I’d have liked to watch him play.
