Well friends and neighbors, it has been a long two years.  I began my graduate work after my paternal Grandfather passed away in April of 2021.  He and my grandmother passed away less than six months apart.  This left a hole in our family big enough to drive a truck through.  For me, the hole was filled with sorrow at our loss and guilt at dragging my feet on rounding out my education and making them proud of me.  After they were gone, the hole kept getting bigger and the guilt was weighing on me so much that simple pleasures began to seem frivolous and unenjoyable.  The recent pandemic was beginning to wind down, and folks were headed back to work and back to school.  Several universities were promoting enrollment and waiving the GRE and GMAT requirements for their graduate admissions, and I took that as a blessing and an invitation to give higher education another go.  I did my research and chose Lamar University based on recommendations from colleagues, their enrollment requirements, and their affordable pricing for a 100 percent online curriculum for a Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management Information Systems.  Now, after two years of additional university level work and study, I have earned my MBA from Lamar University.  The road was pretty rocky for me as I was never a great student.  I am a habitual procrastinator and this trait really bit me a couple of times, but I managed to pull it out of the fire.  It did get a little crispy, though.  All in all, I’m glad that I finally made good on my goal of completing my MBA.  I feel much less guilty today, and I hope that my grandparents are all looking down on me and proud of this accomplishment.  They were, after all, my guides and my inspirations for capping off my education with a graduate degree.  And while the thought of continuing on toward a Doctorate is tempting, I am more than content in stopping here.  So, I’m dedicating this achievement to all my grandparents, my mother and father, and my wife who earned her Master’s degree more than a decade ago.   Thank you all for your guidance and support, though you may not have known you were giving it so freely.  I love you all.
